St_Blazey__6__three_road_locomotive_shed_30_7_2017.jpg (144860 bytes)

St.Blazey_(6)_three_road_locomotive_shed_30.7.2017: There was a second locomotive shed at St.Blazey, this three-road building, which was opened by the Cornwall Mineral Railway (CMR) in about 1877; it was also used for heavy repairs of engines. The Great Western Railway took over the CMR in 1896 and soon after turned the three road shed over to wagon repairs, something that continued until the 1980s. Today with one road closed off, the building is used by DBS for storage and repair of 4-wheel and bogie, china clay wagons and also for the light maintenance and refuelling of diesel locomotives. Class 66 206 rests outside the shed’s northern end – the former roundhouse is adjacent to the building’s southern end. roger.griffiths@hotmail.com
