Looking west from the western end of Newport station in South Wales. On the right is a special RUGBYEX service from Cardiff Central to Crewe consisting of unbranded Virgin Train's red and black liveried coaches hauled by EWS Class 67 locomotive 67027. On the left, approaching from under the bridge is an Arriva Trains Wales shuttle service from Cardiff Central to here. Class 37 diesel loco 37425 is leading with Class 50 50049 on the rear and four Arriva-liveried Mark 2 coaches in between. Both locomotives are in BR Large Logo livery. The shuttle service is to cater for the extra demand generated by the Rugby Union Heineken Cup final between Munster and Biarritz at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

These days following the loss of postal work...for which the class were specifically designed...67s can
turn up on almost anything but a regular booked freight is still a bit of rarity. This is an exception though
as 67027 approaches the end of its journey to Ely for a local business. This is the first time we have seen such
a train and the opportunity to photograph it was not missed. The date was August 20th 2004 at Ely.

'Skips' or class 67s make an interesting sight on freight trains although these days in an
effort to find work for them it is not that unusual. This car train from from Dagenham Dock
to Wembley is down for class 66 or as in this case class 67 haulage. 67020 is
Pictured about to leave the Barking to Gospel Oak line and the join the North London Line

There is a possibility of mail returning to rail but only using the 325 EMUs so this scene
taken at Didcot in 2001 of 67018 on a parcels is not likely to be repeated after the contract
with EWS came to an end in March 2004.

Well this is the first time I have pictured a class 67 coming off the bend like this and although the class are now quite regularly seen
on freight duties they always make a welcome change from the more usual class 66. 67018 brings its intermodal through
Stratford on February 13th 2007.
