A First Great Western "Barbie" liveried 1st Class mark 3 (Trailer First) HST coach "H" at Bath Spa station. This coach was the leading passenger car on this Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington express.

A First Great Western Class 43 HST powercar leads crosses the bridge over the River Avon into Bath Station en route from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads. The black and white photograph in the right midground of the photo marks the start of the Kennet and Avon Canal, which with the Avon and Kennet River Navigations and Bristol Floating Harbour formed the major transport route from London to Bristol in the generation before the Great Western Railway. The M4 motorway, the flagship London to Bristol transport highway of the late 20th century runs more than 5 miles north of Bath city centre.
