The intercity London Paddington to South Wales service does not stop at Patchway excpet when access the line between Bristol Parkway and Swindon is closed due to engineering work.

An unidentified First Great Western Class 43 HST powercar passes under the bridge carrying a footpath over the railway between Patchway station and the split-level Patchway tunnels, while an eastbound Wessex Trains Class 158/9 DMU 158967 waits at a signal at the top of the incline from the tunnel. The HST is on a London Paddington to Cardiff or Swansea service, while the DMU is on a Cardiff-Portsmouth journey.
