It is seen departing from Ashurst, Kent, during the CSC Uckfield Line Gala on 24th May 1998. Note that the use of a black triangle, formerly painted on the Driving Motor coaches to indicate that they contained the brake compartment, has been discontinued. This is the last occasion we saw a 205 unit or 'Thumper'...a nickname that reflects their sound...on a London Bridge to Uckfield service. Like many old trains they are going fast and by now the only 'Southern DEMU' may by now have had run its last regular servive train and been replaced by class 170s.
