Class 221 Super Voyager 221128
221128 braves sea spray along the sea wall between Teignmouth and Parsons Tunnel. This design of unit fell from grace in October 2002, when high tides caused numerous short circuits and left a number of units disabled without power. The cause was found to be salt water interfering with roof mounted electrical systems in connection with the rhesostatic braking system. Photograph and copyright W.Smith (wa231_2000@yahoo.co.uk) |

Obviously one the problems about a good location like Portway is that the shots get samey, so to vary the shot I took this shot at an angle - I kinda like it, even though th number of Voyagers (and Turbostars) at this location can get a bit monotonous.

Class 221 Virgin Voyager DEMU 221136 waits at Carlisle station with a service to Glasgow Central. This shot is a closeup of the very unhelpful (for railfans and trainspotters at least) location of the set numbers on Virgin Voyager units. At some stations, for instance Bristol Temple Meads, the profile of the platform makes them invisible from the platform they're standing at.
