Scotrail 150 262 in Regional Railways livery departing from Edinburgh Waverley on a stopping-service for Kirkcaldy. The overbridge from which this photo was taken is a footpath linking Princes Street Gardens to Castle Terrace. Pedestrians are prevented from sticking their hands out to touch the 25kV overhead lines by a layer of perspex on the wooden structure. Luckily, they chose to use clear perspex through which photos can be taken. The double-track main on the right are the North Lines taking the train northwards towards the Forth Bridge whereas the main on the left are the electrified South Lines taking the train either towards Carstairs (electric) or Glasgow Queen St (diesel). An overhead neutral section can be seen towards the left of the picture, serving the crossover between the down line (right hand side) and the up line. The North Lines is not electrified beyond the signal post seen in this photo.
