Scotrail 150 284 in Regional Railways livery departing from Edinburgh Waverley on a stopping-service for Bathgate, this time on the South Lines (which are on the right in this view towards Waverley Station). The tunnels in view takes the railway underneath The Mound, and only the outer tunnels are electrified. This leads to a curious situation where the westbound electric trains on the Down North line must cross the Up North line (second from the left) to gain access to the electrified Down South line ~ this wouldn’t make sense if you don’t know the track layout in that area! The inner tunnels were not electrified because of limited clearances.
