Northern rail Class 156 DMU 156463 stands at Platform 1 of Sunderland station. Although the destination blind says Carlisle, this is the destination of the next servie. Because of the unique design of Sunderland station where the tracks are shared between national rail and Tyne and Wear Metro services, terminating trains cannot wait in the platforms but must continue south into one of the sidings.
