This is a Scotrail 156 seen in Aberdeen Station. It is most likely to be one used for the Aberdeen-Inverness services as it has an IS (Inverness) depot sticker below its tops number, but it is stabled at the 'wrong end' platform for Inverness. Aberdeen station is a through station with lines going from Edinburgh and Glasgow through platform 6/7 and the two up/down lines combine to form the single line Aberdeen-Inverness section.
the last I heard Inverness was losing some of its 156 allocations to Corkerhill, the units being xferred into SPT service after the arrivals of the 170s displace 158s onto those routes. But it must retain some as the Kyle line is not 158-gauge-cleared. The 75mph-max Far North line is also getting cascaded 158s, one wonders if they would be better used elsewhere. Although fitted with the wrong kind of accommodation, the gearing in the 150 will in fact benefit the Far North line as much as 158s would. Picture by Lexcie Lu, http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/
