This photo was disappointingly pale, but I think that has something to do with Scotrail's new livery which doesn't seem to compliment itself on film.

This is a rare occasion on which 158s made it into Glasgow Central alongside class 91s. The Queen Street tunnels were shut due to engineering works during 3 weekends in July 1999 and the Edinburgh and Glasgow shuttle (then 158-hauled) were diverted via Falkirk Grahamston, Greenhill Lower Junction, Cumbernauld, Coatbridge Central, the R&C, and joined the West Coast Mainline at Rutherglen before belting it into Glasgow Central. The total journey time varied between 1 hour and 10 mins and 1 hour and 30 mins. The journey time was further lengthened by the need to pick up a route conductor at Carmyle due to the lack of driver route knowledge, whereas SPT drivers would not have had unit knowledge for the 158.

Belting at 50mph down the WCML between Rutherglen and Bridge St Junction was fun: the ride was somewhat rough, but only as bad as expected from the riding characteristics of the 158. It felt somewhat weird to be running a 158 under the electric wires at that point. Picture by Lexcie Lu, http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/
