Central Trains servies between Nottingham and Cardiff are normally operated by single two- or three-car Class 170 sets, but today this service was strengthend to five cars with a one two-car and one three-car unit to cater for the extra demand generated by the Rugby Union <i>Heineken Cup</i> final between Munster and Biarritz at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. In this photograph the train is arriving into platform 3 of Newport station in South Wales with a Nottingham bound service, 3-car 170102 (a unit whose teal livery shows it to be one inherited from Midland Mainline) is leading with 2-car 170523 (in Central Trains' own bright green livery) on the rear.
