Newport station in South Wales - On the left is Central Trains Class 170 railbus DMU 170631, operating a regular service from the Nottingham to Cardiff Central departing platform 2. At platfrom 1 on the right, an Arriva Trains Wales shuttle service between here and Cardiff is top-and-tailed by Class 47 locomotives, 47815 <i>Great Western</i> in British Railways two-tone green livery and carrying its pre-TOPS number of D1748 is at the western end. Not visible in this photo, is 47839 in an unbranded dark blue livery at the eastern end. The shuttle services are operated at times of peak demand - on this occasion Rugby Union's <i>Heineken Cup</i> final between Munster and Biarritz was taking place at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Also on an extra service due to the rugby is a First Great Western HST led by 43027 which is seen here passing through the station with a non-stopping service - the line it is on is more often used by freight services.
