Class 170 (3-car) Turbostar (170 102) of Midland Mainline, seen upon turnaround at London King's Cross.
These units have been running since their introduction in 1998-99 on semi-fast services between London and Derby/Nottingham/Sheffield. They occasionally run on "Project Rio" (i.e. MML services between London-St Pancras and Manchester Piccadilly running as a relief for the West Coast Mainline during the blockades around Crewe and Stafford).
This sight will soon be history. In 2004, MML will replace with Meridians 222s, a more refined version of Virgin Voyagers 220s. MML 170s will migrate to other franchises operated by National Express, which also runs MML.
One can also notice a refurbished HST of MML on the right, with the new livery.
