Railfreight Distribution 90 036 at Glasgow Central, 6 June 2000, having arrived with the previous night's 1S26 (the Caledonian Sleeper). Note the revised Railfreight European Livery, with yellow cab roof, orange SNCF-style trim, triple-tone grey and red lettering. This locomotive was reclassified from class 90/1 to allow a top speed of 110mph after EWS realised there was increased demand for spot-hire high-speed electric passenger locomotives. The 75mph speed limit in class 90/1s is arbitrary and relates purely to cost savings associated with the reduced maintenance regime for a lower top speed. The loco will now detach and return to Polmadie light engine, after the stock is hauled away by any random locomotive which happens to be hanging about, in the case of that day it was Res 47 775.
