Locomotive in your face! a large pic of Railfreight Distribution (now EWS) 90 040 seen here stabled at Edinburgh Waverley Motorail Terminal, July 1999. This locomotive is part of the recently reclassified class 90/0 series (note the darker and cleaner ‘0’ numerial on the bodyside). EWS reclassified the 75mph 90/1s as the 110mph 90/0s sometime in June in order to allow for greater operational flexibility in the sleeper diagrams. There is no physical change to the locomotive, the only change associated with the reclassification is maintenance procedure.

The locomotive retain its drawhook and freight buffers unlike the dedicated Res locomotives 90 016~019 which have passenger-style buckeye couplers. Incidentally, 90 019 was recently named Penny Black after the infamous stamp.
