The days of the Scotrail Class 305's which operate from Edinburgh to the
East Lothian seaside resort of North Berwick are now numbered following the
building of new class 334 EMU's for Scotrail's Strathclyde operations.
Introduction of these new units will see the demise of the ageing Scotrail
Class 303's currently used in and around the Strathclyde (Glasgow) area
and will also displace some of the Class 318's currently operating on the
Glasgow to Ayr line. While the Class 303's will be destined for scrap,
the displaced Class 318's will see re-use on the Edinburgh - North Berwick
line, replacing the ageing Class 305's which will also be destined for
scrap, as well as on other local services within the Glasgow area.
