Class 319 of Thameslink seen emerging from the Snow Hill Tunnel from the south end of Farringdon Station. This unit is still using the 750V DC live rail. When calling at Farringdon, it will switch to 25kV AC overhead.

These units were specifically built for the introduction of Thameslink services when the Snow Hill Tunnel was reinstated in 1988.

They were reliveried in 1997-98. A new livery is to be applied when the next refurbishment takes place in 2004-2005.

Re-introduction_of_Class_319_journeys_to_St__Pancras_no_1.jpg (125792 bytes)

319375 is seen departing for Bedford, passing 222019 (Meridian!) on the way. This was the first time in 7 years that Thamelsink services ever made their way into St. Pancras, which was a regularity until:
1) The MML branch to Moorgate was opened.
2) The Snow Hill Tunnel was re-opened, with a new station being opened in it 2 years later (known as City Thameslink).

On a typical weekday, circa 1500 people use St. Pancras every AM peak (via Midland Mainline), with that number now well over seven-fold with Thameslink (10,000+ everu AM peak).

The picture was taken on Sunday 29th August 2004 using a Kodak Easyshare DX6440, and anyone who wishes to use this photo must first seek permission from Edward Sloley via edward.sloley@ntlworld.com

Now you can see the other end of 319375 as it departs.

During the blockade (since 11/09/2004), an additional 12 Class 319 and 14 Class 317 (or was it the other way round?) were leased in order to reduce the risk of significantly severe overcrowding as a result of the blockade. Midland Mainline even couple some of their Meridians (Class 222 DEMU) in order to meet demand on the MML.

Thameslink's 319383 is making its usual stop at Platform 1 of Luton Airport Parkway on the way to London St. Pancras, which will continue until 16th May when the tunnel under King's Cross/St. Pancras is reopened, along with the presence of a 'ghost station' (i.e. the shell of St. Pancras Midland Road) until possibly as far as 2014.
