EMU Class 421. Originally designated 4CIG by Southern Region, these 4 car express units became class 421. This is unit 421711 on an westbound Ore to Brighton working passing Berwick signal box on Thursday June 10<SUP>th</SUP>, 1999. The signal box was being repainted into Southern Railway colours with replica signs and nameboards. The line to the east was still being worked by bell code and absolute block from this 1879 Saxby & Farmer box, as it had been for over a 120 years while that to the west was Track Circuit block. <P>
