Island Line Class 483 EMU 483009 approaches Ryde Esplanade station with a northbound service to Ryde Pier Head, photographed from station.
The Class 483 EMUs were originally built as 630-volt 4th rail EMU 1938 tube stock trains for London Underground which came to the Isle of Wight following refurbishment and conversion to 750-volt 3rd operation between 1989 and 1992.
In the background of the photograph is the tunnel to Ryde St John's station, which is the principal reason for the use of tube-guage trains.
