London Underground battery-electric locomotive L35, built in 1938, at London's Transport Musuem depot on 22 October 2005.
Battery locmotives are used for hauling engineers' trains, and can draw power from the electrified rails like a normal tube train, or run on batteries when the power is switched off.
This locomotive was built by the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company and remained in service until 1993.
