150 YEARS OF RAILWAY HISTORY. On August 19th 2006 London Underground's Central Line from Leyton to Loughton was 150 years old and therefore forms the oldest part of the Tube network. This is Buckhurst Hill which has seen virtually no change at all since the station was re-built back in 1891. Buckhurst Hill is without a doubt a 'real gem' in todays modern world and is quite possibly the best kept Victorian railway station in regular daily use in the whole country let alone around London. To see exactly what I mean take the link below to our site and THE OLDEST TUBE LINE Collection where I have been kindly given permission of the Loughton and District Historical Society to include a photograph taken in the same place as this but115 years ago! It is good to know that not everything changes as this view alongside the one from Victorian times in 1891 proves.
