150 YEARS OF RAILWAY HISTORY. On August 19th 2006 London Underground's Central Line from Leyton to Loughton was 150 years old and therefore forms the oldest part of the Tube network. This is Buckhurst Hill which has seen virtually no change at all since the station was re-built as far back as 1891. In this view taken on the westbound platform you can just about see the original station house dating from 1856 and shows that the position of the platforms today are not that different from that of the first station.
