This ground-level signal head at Chesham station on the Metropolitan line, along with the disused signal box, was to be used to show school children how signalling worked. Unfortunately this plan fell through, possibly due to health and safety concerns of having children so close to the electrified track.
The signal head itself was formerlly the starting singal for one of the platforms at the station, a job no longer required since the track to the second platform was removed.
