Shoreditch tube station, until it closed permanently on the 10th of June this was the northern terminus of the East London Line - although it was only open at peak hours and on Sunday mornings.
The story of Shoreditch is one of gradual decline - formerlly a two-platform station on the line from Liverpool Street to Whitechappel, New Cross and beyond. Although through passenger working ceased some time previously it wasn't until the electrification of the Great Eastern lines in the 1960s that goods trains finally stopped. With the reduction in traffic came its reduction to just one platform and restricted opening hours. Finally on the 10th of June 2006 it closed for good, due to be replaced by a new station at Shoreditch High Street on the extended East London Line in a couple of years.
