The view westbound through the rather grubby front window of Tyne and Wear Metro train 4089 of Gosforth East Junction. The tracks to the left are the passenger service lines to South Gosforth station, while the right hand tracks give access to the Metro Fleet Depot.
There have been calls from some groups for an off-peak service between St James and Newcaslte Airport via Whitley Bay and the Depot Avoiding Line past the depot, which would depart from the Yellow line at this junction. This plan would remove the necesity for travelers on the North Tyneside Loop section of the Yellow line to change trains at Monument or South Gosforth - both of which involve going up and/or down steps, often with large amounts of luggage. This would leave passengers from stations between Fellgate and South Hylton the only ones without a direct service to the airport, although cross-platform and same-platform interchanges are available at stations between Pelaw and Haymarket.
