Pelaw Tyne and Wear Metro station, looking west along the eastbound platform. This station is the southern diverging point of the Green and Yellow lines, with the former continuing to South Shields and the latter over tracks shared with mainline trains to Sunderland and then onwards to South Hylton. Prior to the opening of the Sunderland extension in 2002, this was the terminus of the yellow line and it is still used as a reversing point for several services a day with trains emptying here and running empty into sidings at the east end of the station.
The tracks to the right of the picture are the Network Rail mainlines between Newcaslte and Sunderland, which are still fully segregated from the Metro at this point, the systems merge at a newly constructed junction southeast of the station.
