ukmiscCTRL_FawkhamJct-SouthfleetJct2.jpg (142435 bytes)

The very first bridge of CTRL1, over Road B260 Longfield-Dartford, just West of Longfield. The older bridge is that of the defunct Fawkham Junction-Gravesend West line, which closed down in the 60s. The Fawkham Jct-Southfleet portion re-uses this defunct line on most of the route. Yet, the bridge had too a tight gauge clearance (NR-W6, single track) to accommodate the HSL.

CTRL (Medway Viaduct), seen from the bridge for the A228 Strood-Cuxton, and looking towards Ashford. The Western Portal of the North Downs Tunnel is in the background, yet not visible from this observation point. Left of the CTRL viaduct, one can see the double viaduct for the A2/M2 Dartford-Dover, which was duplicated while the CTRL viaduct was taking shape.

CTRL, seen from the A228 embankment Cuxton-Strood, at the West End of the Medway Viaduct.

It seems quite easy to trespass on the tracks...

The city across the Medway is Rochester.
