WhalleyViaduct-centre+north-01.jpg (159657 bytes)

A merged view of the northern end (right) and central section of the 620 metre, 48 arch, brick Whalley Viaduct viewed from a short distance west of Whalley Abbey gatehouse. The viaduct, which carries the Ribble Valley Line 21.3 metres above the river is the largest and longest viaduct in Lancashire. It was built between 1846 and 1850 (although one source states it was completed in 1852) for the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway.
