gb-poolelevelcrossing-barriersdown-01.jpg (177549 bytes)

The level crossing over Poole's pedestrianised High Street, seen here with the barriers down well in advance of a train. This picutre was taken at 5:45pm on a saturday evening, during the day it is typically much busier than this!
Photographed from the pedestrian footbridge that prevents a train severing all communication between the upper and lower parts of the high street.

Just out of view around the corner is Poole station, while in the centre of the picture you can see how the electrified third rails are suspended for the level crossing.

gb-poolelevelcrossing-footbridge-01.jpg (167073 bytes)

The pedestrian footbridge adjacent to the level crossing over the High Street in Poole that prevents a train severing all communication between the upper and lower parts of the high street. A feature that would be surely more than welcome at the massively disrupive level crossing on one of the main shopping streets in Lincoln.

A close-up of the maker's name on the pedestrian footbridge adjacent to the level crossing over the High Street in Poole - "RANSOMES & HAPIER"
This photograph also shows the fine detailing on this cast iron bridge that would be sadly lacking were this bridge a modern concrete or steel structure.

gb-poolelevelcrossing-fromstation-01.jpg (159879 bytes)

The level crossing over the high street, and the adjacent pedestrian footbridge, viewed from the extreme eastern end of Poole station. Don't be fooled by the apparent lack of activity, this photogaph was taken shortly after 7pm on a Saturday evening, during the day this street is busling with activity.
Note also the CCTV cameras used by the signalers to ensure the crossing is clear.
