Northern Portal for the Snow Hill Tunnel. This tunnel was closed from the 60s to 1988. It was reinstated so as to launch Thameslink services from Brighton to Bedford, kind of London RER or Crossrail...
The tracks to the left are those for the Moorgate Branch. These were extensively used until the reinstatement of the Snow Hill Tunnel. Nowadays, only a few peak services use it, and the Moorgate Branch will close once Thameslink 2000 sees light, so as to make room to extend Farringdon platforms for 12-car formations.
The catenary ends at the portal. Thameslink services use 750V DC live rail between the portal and their stop at Farringdon, where they switch to 25kV AC overhead.
