12052 stands at the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Society's site of Minnvey Colliery on Sunday 8th August 1999. This railway is more commonly known as the Scottish Industrial Railway Museum.
This locomotive started out life in 1949 based at Crewe South and survived until June 1971 when it was finally withdrawn from BR service. In December 1971 of that year this loco was purchased for industrial use by Derek Crouch (Contractors) ltd for use at the NCBOE Widdrington Disposal Point before finally being purchased for preservation by the ARPS after nearly 20 years use at this site.

120 of this LMS designed type of loco were built between 1945 & 1953 are basically an early example of the mechanically similar Class 08 shunter, many of which are still in use today. 20 of these locomotives were built for the war department with 6 of them passing onto the LMS and a further 10 later passing on to the NS (Netherland Railway) in 1946, of which one, namely WD-70269 (NS 508), survives in preservation in the Netherlands at the National Railway Museum, Utrecht.
