British Rail diesel locomotive 18000 is a prototype gas turbine electric locomotive, built in 1946 in Switzerland. It was in daily use until December 1960. Express passenger locomotive 4079 "Pendennis Castle" was built in 1924 as part of the famous 4073 Castle class of which 166 were built. It was withdrawn by BR in 1964 and later exported to Australia. Replica of broad gauge locomotive North Star, built in 1925 in Swindon using parts of the original locomotive. The North Star hauled the first passenger train over the Great Western Railway in 1838. Wantage Tramway - UK Didcot Railway Centre is the living museum of the Great Western Railway. This locomotive was built in 1857 for Sandy & Potton Railway. 4 similar (narrow gauge) locomotives remain at the Ffestiniog railway. In 1878 it was sold to the Wantage Tramway Company and operated until 1946, when GWR bought it and put it on display. It operated again from 1969 to 1975 but was withdrawn shortly after.
