The Lappa Valley Railway opened to the public on the 16th June 1974 with Zebedee and four coaches built by
Jays Gates of St Newlyn East (now Mid-Cornwall Metal Fabrications of Newquay). Two more locomotives were purchased
from Longleat Safari Park in 1976 and more coaches were built as well.

In the 1970s a 7¼ inch (184mm) gauge railway was laid around a small boating lake, whilst a third railway,
of 10¼ inch (260mm) gauge, running a further 748 yards (684m) along the old trackbed was opened in May 1995.
