14 St John, is the 0-6-0ST that plays the part of Thomas at the popular Thomas and Friends events at many heritage railways.
Built by the Hunslet Engine Co. in 1998 for the Manchester Ship Canal it shunted the canal's railway system until it was 1963 when it was replaced by diesels. It was then sold to ICE at Blackley on the Manchester to Bury line as The Lady Armaghdale where it worked until 1969 when it was preserved by the Severn Valley Railway, who still own it.
The design inlcudes a flexible front axle and flangeless centre wheels to ease its passage round the canal system's tight curves.
