Looking east from the eastern end of platform 1 at Dorchester South station, the second station out from Weymouth on the 750v DC third rail electrified line to London Waterloo. Trains for London follow the south coast through Wareham, where the Isle of Purbeck brach line used to join, Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton before turning inland to London.
The railway becomes single track just before the bridge on the horizon of this photograph, although there is a very disused looking siding just this side.
