Looking outbound from midway along platform 6 at London Liverpool Street station. This view clearly shows the partially below-ground nature of the station, the rationale for this expensive design was to allow a connection with the sub-surface Metropolitan Railway (now the London Underground Metropolitan Line), but in practice this did not happen often if at all and the link was abandonded quite early on in the life of the station.
