  • Westbound First Great Western Class 180 DMU 180108 on a service to Cardiff Central
  • EWS Class 66 diesel locomotive 66001 on a westbound freight service.

A merged view of a busy moment at Newport station in South Wales, west- and eastbound First Great Western HSTs are leaving and arriving at the station with services from and to London Paddington respectively, an eastbound freight train carrying slab steel trundles through the station eastbound and EWS Class 66 diesel loco 66195 at the head of a westbound train is detained at a red signal. While all this is going on a trainspotter notes the number of the powercar at the rear of the eastbound HST service.

Following the closure of Godfrey Road locomotive stabling yard adjacent to Newport (Cas-Newydd) station, a major extension to the currently all-but unused fourth platform is under construction
