A general view of Rannoch Station in central Scotland taken from the footbridge. From the righthand platform you can here you can catch a northbound service to Fort William and thence to Mallaig. The southbound platform on the left, currently undergoing some engineering work, offers services to Crianlarich, Glasgow and the South. An exhibition on railways in the Highlands of Scotland wass due to open in the station building about a fortnight after my visit - although the leaflet we picked up about it didn't say this!
Truly in the middle of almost nowhere, Rannoch station is at the end of a five-mile dead-end road and 16 miles distant from the large (for the area) village of Kinloch Rannoch at the far end of Loch Rannoch (Map).
