Built as "Golden Shuttle" for the London North Eastern Railway 4489 was renamed "Dwight D Eisenhower", the only UK Locomotive named after a US Citizen, in honour of help in World War 2 from the USA. It is the only mainline UK steam locomotive in the USA. It is accompanied by the command carriages used in Worldwar 2 by Eisenhower. Both former LNER and were used all over Europe before returning to the LNER, and later British Railways. Thanks to the www.nationalrrmusuem.org for their very friendly help and inspection of 60008.

LNER / British Railways A4 4-6-2. Looking towards the front from the Side of 60008 "Dwight D Eisenhower" outside and easily photographable for the second and last time in the last 30 years, and possibly for the next 50 years, whilst a new building (without rail access, or locomotive sized exit doors) is built around the main display engines. Icicles hang off the motion until the warm new building is constructed around the engine.
