Eccles Colliery, Northumberland 1973. NCB Backworth No.6 (Bagnall 2749 of 1944) and No.49 (Stephenson & Hawthorn 7098 of 1943) shunt the colliery screens. Both locos were built for the War Department, and both were preserved when the Backworth system was dieselised in late 1974, No.6 at Brechin and No.49 at Marley Hill. Backworth was often difficult to get good photographs of locos at work as they all faced North.
