English Electric produced a successful family of tram designs for Blackpool Corporation in the mid 1930s, many of which are still going strong today. These open single deck trams are known as "Boats", for obvious reasons. The family resemblance to the double deck "Balloons" can be seen.

Blackpool 706, one of thirteen "Balloons" originally built as open-deck trams, has been restored to that configuration. It is named "Princess Alice" and has hopper ventilators in place of the original half-drop style.
