The biggest and more powerful diesel locomotives in Greece, after the demise of the Romanian A-551 class, are the Canadian-built MLW MX-636. Originally delivered as 6-axle and 3600hp brutes in 1974, the 8 remaining locomotives from the batch of ten (two were lost in collisions) entered a major rebuilding program that essentially transformed these locomotives into modern freight pullers. A510 and A501 (last and first in the class) are readying for a trip to Oinoi for pulling yet another freight train from there. The view is from the North footbridge of Athens station.
