OSE Steam locomotive Delta 7108:
At Ag.Anargyri station you find the withdrawn metergauges steam locomotive D7108. It is a locomotive of the S-118 series of the US-Army Transportation Corp, made 1947 by Vulcan. After the second world war 8 locomotives was given to the greek railway as war compartment. The steam locomotives was retired at 1972, but this locomotive was used for special museum trains up to the early 90s. Since than the locomotive stands unprotected at the Ag.Anargyri Station.

Metergauge steam locomotive Delta 7712 was made by Borsig in 1915 for the Peloponnes Railways. Unfurtunally, this historic steam locomotive stands also unprotected in Ag. Anargyri Station. Cylinder block of a metre-gauge steam locomotive at the railway museum of Kalamata. Many of the exhibits are showing damage due to rust. Here someone has tried to repair a cylinder block with what looks like car body filler. The rust won.

Enroute to Milie, the small train does one of the many photostops planned.
This time the train is very short (two instead of the four max. summer coaches), because
the entire fleet of the road (4 summer coaches) is split with another regular
excursion train, which'll be pulled from a diesel after our train.

Same time, same place - just trying a vertical composition. It's really hard to make a bad photo in this route :-)

An excursion train approaches Milies station in the Pilion mountain, near Volos.
The chief engineer of Thessalian Railways was Evaristo de Cirico, father of
well-known painter Giorgio de Cirico. It's not usual at all to see a line
curving in a bridge, and people refer to this bridge as "De Cirico's bridge"
today.
The 0.60 meters narrow-gauge Volos-Milies line was 28 km long in its heyday, with maximum grade three percent. Nearly half of the line is closed since the seventies, and today the most scenic part is still available for excursions. A Tubize-built steam locomotive pulls that particular train, while another regular excursion train follows it, powered by a diesel locomotive.

Steam Engine 'Milies' taking a break at the shed in Milies on a Sunday run between Ano Lechonia and Milies on the Pilio Railway. The 600 mm gauge Pilio Railway was closed in 1971, since when many proposals for a at least partial reopening have stalled. After receiving EU funding, the upper section was revived in 1996 and sees one pair of steam trains each summer Saturday and Sunday. August 1998.

There are two operating tank steam locomotives in the narrow gauge Pilion route. Locomotive "Miliai"
in the foreground was built in 1903 by Tubize in Belgium, while in the background the
locomotive "Jason" was built in 1912 by the company Haine St.Pierre (again in Belgium). Both
locomotives have nearly 100 Hp horsepower and weight 21.2 metric tons, with maximum speed 30 km/h.
In the background there's one of the two new Schoema diesels based in Ano Lechonia. Many railfans feel that the masquerading of the diesels to steam locomotives with a black shrouding was of dubious aesthetic value (to put it mildly...). In this photo, locomotive "Miliai" takes water from a small water tank in the Ano Lechonia station before preparing for a trip with German/Swiss railfans in the Sunday 8 June 2003.

In the neighbourhood of the Trikala railway station you can find the meter-gauge steam
locomotive 22 of the former Thessalian Railways, now as a monumental. The locomotive
was made in 1908 by Tubize in Belgium and for decades it stands withdrawn in Volos.
More pictures of the locomotive at my little website:

Gegenüber dem Bahnhof von Trikala, auf einem Platz, steht die Meterspur-Dampflok 22 der Thessalischen Kleinbahn nun als Denkmallok. Zuvor stand die 1908 von Tubize in Belgien gebaute Lok ausgemustert auf dem Bahnhofsgelände von Volos. Der gesamte Museumszugs sieht leider sehr schlecht aus, aber da er erst kürzlich aufgestellt wurde, gibt es Hoffnungen, daß es nicht so bleibt.
