Skydra station in Western Macedonia is the last station in the plains, before the tortuous climp towards the Edessa, Florina and Kozani western extremities of the standard gauge rail network in Greece. Heavy freight trains often have a need for helpers before continuing.

This overview shot shows the differences in design, compared to most Greek railway stations (influenced mostly from then-contemporary French railway architecture, as far as I know).

Another overview shot of Skydra station, looking westwards (towards Edessa) from the high concrete footbridge.

At the time of the shot, there was a big amount of materials (ballast, ties, etc.) at the right side of the photo, plus some BDZ locomotives and ballast hoppers used by the contractor.
