HZ_Presignal.jpg (52626 bytes)

A pre-signal in the nearby of Zagreb. Pre-signals are marked by a white board with two black triangles touching in one point. Unlike the signals, they have white signal-pole with black stripes (the signals have red stripes). The small white board below the lights reads "PsX" (Pre-signal X), which designates the appropriate main signal (e.g. PsB is the pre-signal of the signal B). Pre-signals usually have only two lights - the upper green and the lower yellow - to indicate which light is to be expected at the main signal. The distance from the pre-signal and the related main signal should be long enough for stopping the train. If the main signal cannot be observed clearly from a sufficient distance, an additional repeater of the pre-signal is inserted in between, which is marked with "PS" and with a lowermost still white light.

HZ_Signal_0.jpg (33618 bytes)

This track-signal indicates that the track is closed. When open, two diagonal white lights are lit up.
The photo was taken at Zagreb Main Railway Station. A couple of postal cars (the series 50 78 00 00) is parked alongside the General Post Office building to the right.

HZ_Signal_F3.jpg (112563 bytes)

The main signal "F3" at the exit from the small shunting station of Crnomerec, next to Kustosija passengers' station. The signals on the same track are marked with letters in sequence, thus this "F3" means the sixth signal on the track no. 3. The signal-poles are painted white with red stripes and do not have any black triangles -- which distinguishes them from the pre-signals. Below the inscription there is a circle made up of twelve green lamps; lighting them up demands setting the train in motion.

This type of signalisation is suitable at the speed up to 160 km/h, which has been never exceeded in Croatia.

HZ_Signal_F5.jpg (113511 bytes)

The main signal "F5" at the fifth track, photographed at the exit from the shunting station of Crnomerec, in the direction of Zagreb Zapadni kolodvor (West Railway Station). This signal is one of those that literally never change. The regular traffic is in progress on the tracks 1 and 2, while the other tracks are mainly used for shunting, which is done in spite of the red lights.
