MÁV diesel-electric locomotive M40 223 (nicknamed "Humpback") at Salgótarján (north-eastern Hungary), seen with a passenger train to Hatvan, in the falling snow. These nice engines don't regularly work passenger trains anymore. Biggest chances for catching one is in the Szombathely-Celldömölk region. They were built 1963-70 by Ganz-MÁVAG (Budapest), with a maximum output of 605/740 kW, and speed of 100 km/h. A dozen of the engines were built for the Russian 1524 mm gauge, as the M40.9 series, and can be found at the border station of Záhony.
