Botanic

This is an 8000-series DMU departing Belfast Botanic station for Portadown (or Great Victoria Station). With this series, the doors can be right in the middle of a transversal seating row, and each door requires that to open from the inside, that the passenger slide the window down, and open from the handle outside.

Botanic station is the first station west of Belfast Central. The next station after that is the City Hospital.

The station lobby is at the top of the ramp, and the ticket office is right where the two ramps come together. The station platform looks like it might have an underground section.

In this unusual photograph we see a NIR 80 Class DMU set wearing a IE logo. This set was leased to IE to operate the Bray-Greystones shuttle allowing commuters from the north Wicklow area to make connections with the Dublin Area Rapid Transit system at Bray. Here we see 69 approaching the dramatic cliffs at Bray Head. The imposing Irish Sea looms below in what must be one of the most spectacular commuter rail services in the world. This single track route is currently being electrified. (April 1989)
