| On Display in front of the TtrM Archive & Museum dedicated to history of Transport Trentino in Trento - Italy there are two historical rolling stocks.
The Blue one is previous SFD (Società Ferroviaria delle Dolomiti) electrotrain ET008.
When the 1956 Winter Olympics were awarded to Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the main problems of the organizers was the transport.
There was a normal gauge reconstruction project with a new track, of the narrow gauge railway (950 mm) Calalzo – Cortina – Dobbiaco put into service, with electric drive, in 1929. But the expenditure was unsustainable and a less expensive intervention programme was adopted to strengthen the existing line. The program included, among other things, the purchase of two three-crate electric trains.
The two electrotrains of the SFD (Society for the Railway of the Dolomites), numbered 007 and 008, were respectively put into service on 7 December 1955 and 11 January 1956.
The Olympics, which took place from 26 January to 5 February 1956, put a strain on the railway that was still able to move up to 7000 travelers per day. After the euphoria of the celebrations began the slow but inexorable decline of this jewel railway.
Despite the notoriety and beauty of the landscape crossed, the road competition, thanks to the mass motorization, became increasingly fierce and this, combined with the reduced maintenance of the fixed systems, the difficult track (turn radius that went down to 60 meters) and the presence of numerous and dangerous level crossings, led in 1962 to the suppression of the service between Cortina and Dobbiaco and in 1964 to the cessation of the remaining Calalzo – Cortina route. In "patriotic" livery is displayed the FTM Ferrovia Trento Malè Driving trailer CP 02. This unit was recontructed by the FTM workshop during 1977 from the previous trailer Ln88.404 of the abolished Mantua-Peschiera del Garda railway. The unit was originally built in 1958 by Romaro Workshop in Padua. Photo by Guido Allieri (guido@allieri.com) - www.allieri.com |
