93 90 0408 001-5 EG-NAT, end car of Velaro Egypt by Siemens. Four cars of the first of 41 eight-car units were shown at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin. The 200.72 m long units will have 99 business class seats, 390 economy class seats and two wheelchair spaces. They are derived from German class 408 but only intended to go 250 km/h instead of 330 km/h. As an adaptation to the local conditions there are additional filters keeping sand and dust out, the air-conditioning system and the cooling systems of components were modified to work reliably in hot temperatures. The trains are intended for a network of new lines under construction, the first segment will go from Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea via South Cairo to Alexandria and Marsa Matruh on the Mediterranean Sea. This "green line" is planned to be completed in 2027. Local trains will be operated by Siemens Desiro HC units (94 ordered) and freight trains pulled by an adapted Vectron locomotive (41 ordered).
